Plater Chemicals Group
Plater Chemicals was incorporated in 1980 & has grown to become a respected chemical distributor.

In April 2009 Plater chemicals acquired Lancashire Chemicals, Glossop, which bought manufacturing capacity to Plater Chemicals.

In April 2010 Plater Chemicals acquired the business of Daltrade, who specialise in the import and distribution of Polish chemicals.

Our short term goals are to consolidate our position in the market and to expand the business using our manufacturing capability.

Plater Chemicals
A couple of products need a mention, Oxalic Acid & Boric Acid; both have become short for different reasons.

Oxalic Acid prices are increasing as a result of anti dumping being applied to Chinese product. The likely effect is Oxalic Acid of Chinese origin will increase and the EEC producers will follow. Plater Chemicals represents the interests of the Indian producer Star Oxochem and will continue to offer a competitively priced premium product.

Boric Acid has increased in price through 2011 by more than 25%, as a result of extremely high demand from the Far East. Plater Chemicals has been put on allocation by its Bolivian principle Tierra, however we do receive regular shipments.

DE-ICERS
As the summer comes to a close we are now gearing up for the supply of de-icing products for the winter season. New for this winter season are a couple of new products, firstly, a fully approved, potassium acetate based liquid de-icer suitable for use on airport runways, which is also suitable for users who want a more effective, easier to handle de-icer. Secondly a sodium acetate based crystal de-icer as an alternative to rock salt for sensitive areas such a road bridges, car parks etc.

ACETATES, FORMATES AND PROPIONATES
Also in focus this quarter is the company’s extensive range of carboxylic acid salts. We can offer a full range of acetates, formates and propionates in liquid and solid form which are used in the animal feed, food and pharma areas. These are all made in Glossop and so can be supplied on relatively short lead times, but are still made to order to ensure we can meet the exact requirements of each of our clients.

Daltrade
After a very successful first year, Daltrade Chemicals continue their seamless transition under the Plater Group. We have taken full advantage of Plater Chemical’s fast growing and very successful distribution network allowing us to use their hugely diverse product range and their product sourcing throughout the world and of course working very closely with Lancashire Chemicals where we have been able to tap into their excellent manufacturing capabilities for related products.

Daltradehave recently been again successfully audited for ISO 9001 2008 and are fully approved for the distribution of feed grade Sodium Bicarbonate through the UFAS scheme.  During the next few months leading up to the end of the year, we aim to charter at least three vessels using our long term partners at Fast Shipping to carry our core products of Soda Ash, Sodium Bicarbonate and Calcium Chloride along with other associated materials from our colleagues at Ciech in Poland; this will be done as usual via the port of Szczien through to our new distribution hub at Britannia storage in Goole.

Overall we are very pleased with business development and look forward to what looks like a very eventful last quarter of 2011.
